TNPL 2020 Schedule | Tamil Nadu Premier League 2020 Schedule:- The Tamil Nadu Premier League is a T20 cricket league in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Premier League was formed in 2016 by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. TNPL is contested during June and July of every year by 8 teams representing eight different districts in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Premier League first season inaugurated by then Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni was won by Tuti Patriots.
There have been 4 seasons of Tamil Nadu Premier League. Chepauk Super Gillies is the most successful team in TNPL after winning the title in 2017 and 2019.
On 2016, the first edition of TNPL was inaugurated by MS Dhoni in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Premier League’s first edition featured popular players like R Ashwin, Murali Vijay and Dinesh Karthik. Tamil Nadu Premier League is played in a round-robin format. The 8 teams play against each other in the league. At the end of the league stage, top 4 teams in the points table will qualify for the playoffs. The playoffs comprise of 3 matches before the final: one eliminator and two qualifiers.
Since 2016, The title sponsor fro TNPL was India Cements Limited whose term ended in 2019. In the first edition, TNCA had earned a total of ₹33.51 crores in franchise rights. This was the highest among all the local T20 leagues in India. TNPL business model is similar to the IPL’s model. TNPL Prize Money
TNPL prize money is:
- Champions – ₹1 crore (US$140,000)
- Runner up – ₹60 lakh (US$84,000)
- Two semi-finalists – ₹40 lakh (US$56,000) each
- Remaining participants – ₹25 lakh (US$35,000)
Tamil Nadu Premier League Teams
There are 8 franchises competing in TNPL. The franchises are named after a district it is representing in Tamil Nadu. Each TNPL team can have a maximum of 22 players that includes 2 outstation players. In 2020, two teams changed their names and bases – Tuti Patriots of Thootukudi shifted to Salem featuring as Salem Spartans and Karaikudi Kaalai became Tiruppur Tamizhans of Tiruppur.

Previously total of 3 venues were used until 2019. Two new venues in Coimbatore and Salem are slated to host TNPL matches from 2020 onwards.

Broadcasting
Star India broadcasts the TNPL matches in Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 1 HD with English commentary and in Star Sports Tamil with Tamil commentary. TNPL matches Online streaming is available on Hotstar.
In 2016, Tamil Nadu Premier League was launched at the time when Chennai Super Kings was facing a two-year suspension from the IPL. Tamil Nadu Premier League was aimed to make up for the absence of high-profile matches in Chennai and to expose talented players from districts. TNPL was launched by then TNCA president N. Srinivasan, who is also the owner of Chennai Super Kings and TNPL’s initial title sponsor was India Cements.
